We visited Romanissimo in the Gaslamp district of San Diego recently and really enjoyed the charming ambience. The space feels warm and inviting, like a classic Italian spot that’s perfect for a relaxed dinner. The drinks were solid and packed a nice punch — great way to start the evening. The Caesar salad was a highlight: fresh, crisp, and well-dressed. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal didn’t live up to that standard. The meatballs with pappardelle pasta had a noticeably greasy flavor that I found heavy. The meat could have used more sautéing for better flavor, and my pappardelle was overly soft. The staff mentioned it was because it was fresh pasta, but I’ve had excellent fresh pasta elsewhere that held up much better and wasn’t falling apart or shredding with slight mixing. The meat sauce needed to be sautéed more too to get that greasy flavor it. Overall, while the vibe and drinks were good, the food quality (one note and lacking flavor) left me wishing we’d chosen somewhere else. I’ll skip this place next time.

While bouncing around Gaslamp we noticed their first location had closed not knowing they just moved into a new spot. So your surprise we saw their signage and after chatting with the hostess decided to have a drink and a snack, after all, it was happy hour! Sitting at the bar we enjoyed the hospitality of a really good looking Italian bartender, guy was super dreamy and so nice! My friend and I shared a charcuterie board from their HH menu, and wow, was stacked. Whoever chooses their meats and cheeses is a genius! All was delicious and that bread my gawd, everything hit! Looking forward to coming back and trying their cheese wheel pasta! Until next time, Arrivederci!

Average-to-below average all over with overpriced items. I got the vegetarian lasagna and it was lukewarm- it was not heated enough. The non alcoholic drink was not tasty and the server did not know wgat to recommend when I asked for his recommendation for a vegetarian dish. I sat on the patio and that was nice. It was my last night in San diego and I was disappointed with the food, service and experience.

The restaurant itself was so cute! I loved the decor for Valentine’s Day! However, you can tell they wanted to fill it up as much possible. It was very cramped and the small table did not have enough room for two people to dine. We were all cramped inside like a bunch of sardines haha, it was crowded but also kinda impressive how they made it work. Nonetheless, I give it 4 stars because for the price there are other Italian restaurants in the area that I’d recommend with more delicious food at this price. And no, the portions are not big like other people stated. It’s pretty small for the price

I had a pretty mixed experience at Romanissimo Cucina Italiana in downtown San Diego. The food itself was decent, lobster ravioli ($40)was good, but overall the visit didn’t really justify the high prices. Service was noticeably slow throughout the meal, and the experience felt a bit disorganized from start to finish. Our busser was great and she was better than our actual server. One thing that stood out was that they don’t box up your leftovers, which felt unusual for a restaurant at this price point, for appetizers, drinks, and entree it was $70 per person and we didn’t get dessert which was $19 for the tiramisu. Also, when I asked for a latte, the server said they could only make a cappuccino — even though they clearly had multiple cup sizes available — which came across as unnecessarily inflexible. On top of that, the atmosphere felt strangely uncomfortable and hard to place. The vibe just felt off, which made it difficult to relax and enjoy the evening. When I asked for a larger table they did not allow that. So when the table next to us left, we put our appetizers on the empty table next to us.
